Venting, Pics and the HDQ/Ask Nic session

So yesterday my day was pretty crummy. Work was fine but I had a prob with someone outside of work and it really hurt my heart. I know this person thought that what they were saying was right but instead of looking at the information that was presented as a whole they took one small piece and ran with it. This is someone from my Omega Letter group that I have known for about 4 years now. Anyway, this person has been known before to jump the gun on things that were presented prior by other people and this time I, and some other members, thought that this was a case of that happening but personally, I felt like it was kind of a smack in the face to me. And I know that it is hurt feelings making it that way, but the problem that I have is is that this person, though they serve a very important role within the OL membership and are needed very much, it is like people have started to think that this person is always right and never say anything contrary for whatever reason and that is not the way it is supposed to be. If people disagree they should not be silent. There were a couple of people who stood up for me in a round about, tactful way, but some others, who are newer kind of smacked me too. It hurt really bad, especially from the 1st person and I was bummed out most of the day b/c this group is my secondary family. They know what I’ve been through in the past few years and they’ve been right there with me with encouragement and support. Anyway, I'm not going to let that one instance in four years deter me from being part of that group. They are too important to me, so I’ll take a deep breath, ask God to help me to forgive and ask forgiveness and go on from there.

I have some pics of the weekend that I wanted to share with everyone as well as some other things.

First up, yes it’s not from this past weekend but I LOVE this pic of Em from St. Patrick’s Day. I painted the shamrock with the gold dots on her face before we went out to the celebration. I wanted to get a good pic before she did something to wipe it off somehow (though she loved it and it stayed on). I ended up falling in love with this picture b/c it’s such an innocent moment.

This weekend I took Emily to a small town south of Austin for their 125th birthday. She was so excited and got to ride a horse for the first time – granted it was led around but she LOVED it! I'm so excited b/c I used to do horseback riding and even got involved in jr. rodeo for about 3 years when I was in what would be considered middle school these days. I think I’ll start looking into lessons for her to take.

She also did fishing for the first time. They had a tank for the kids to fish in. The problem was that the catfish in there had been eating since 10 that morning and it was about 1:45 in the afternoon and they weren’t really biting. Em didn’t snag a fish and she went away sobbing about it b/c she wanted to catch a fish so bad. I told her that we could go sometime when she could catch a fish – though how that is going to happen I don’t know. I don’t fish by myself. I can’t bait a hook and I'm leery of casting the line. Not to mention that I’ve never unhooked a fish before in my life. Um, maybe that isn’t such a good idea. LOL!

I’ll just say that my lily white skin has not seen full-fledged afternoon sun in probably 4 years. Standing in line in the sun for the houses for 30 minutes, standing in line for the fishing in the sun for 40 minutes, walking around where there’s not a whole lot of shade – guess what happened to me?

SUNBURN!!!!

I only got sunburn around the collar of my wide-necked, v-neck shirt but it was flaming red. I’ve discovered that (I guess) past the age of 30, skin doesn’t behave very well anymore. I used to burn and be golden brown the next day. I have pictures where I am dark, dark, dark. Fast forward 10 years and it’s now 5 days later and the sunburned area is STILL a little red and sensitive to the touch. Oh, Em’s fine as can be. She’s ½ Hispanic and has that whole nice tanning thing going for her. I have some American Indian in my background, but apparently it’s not enough to help me out in my “older” age.

That same night we had a belated birthday celebration for Matt’s sister. I still am extremely close with his family and love them dearly. It was really good to see Brian, Matt’s son and Emily’s ½ brother. We don’t really get to see him to often anymore. He’ll be 15 in the middle of May and he’s already about 5’9”. He’s a truly nice and genuine kid but I'm afraid that he’s headed into some territory that I’d rather him not be in but with the example that Matt is setting for him I'm afraid that there’s not a real good role model to look up to right now.

I'm sure Em is thinking “Hmmmmm, I wonder what that is used for?”

Em is terrorizing Brian. She loves him dearly and he clearly loves her too when you see the two of them together. The look on his face here is priceless though b/c Em’s actually getting the better of him for a moment.

Ok, so now for the new me, same as the old me...or however the song goes. I got my hair cut fairly short and I love it. Got some highlights in it too. Here’s a pic of me covering the front desk for the receptionist who was running late yesterday. What do ya think of the new hair?

And lastly…I hang my head as I admit to this. I really like shoes. I used to not care about shoes. As long as they were comfortable for walking and dancing (boots) I was happy. Now I find I have shoes for several occasions and they’re fun and some are sparkly, others are a little funky and though I try to make sure that they are comfortable some are more for show than comfort. However this pair is not one of them. They actually are very comfy. Little 3” spike stilettos on the most darling shoes. Not that I’d run a marathon on them but they are actually pretty comfortable.

Cute aren’t they? Yes that is glitter toe polish in “Ruby Slipper”.

Oy! What a long post.

HDQ/Ask Nic

This one will be easy b/c my brain is taxed right now. It’s been super busy at work and it’s my lunch break right now.

What’s your favorite soft drink and why?

Mine is Sonic’s Route 44 Cherry Limeade (Sprite, cherry syrup and the juice of two lime halves). It reminds me of lazy summer days riding with the top down in a Jeep. Days out at the lake on a boat and swimming. Sitting in a hammock reading a book and listening to the bees buzzing in the nearby flowers and the birds singing happily. It’s one of those drinks that has good memories attached to it for me. I’ve been drinking them since before jr. high and I’ll drink them until I'm 6 feet under.

And finally...

Ask Nic:

This is the place where you can ask me anything. Think of something you have wanted to know about me or were just curious about in general about myself, my experiences in life and love and parenting, my beliefs, etc... Again, be creative, be fun, be introspective, but please be clean! You can post the questions in the comments section or email me your question directly to asknic@gmail.com.

I will be posting the questions and their responses soon so check back within the next week for them. They probably will be up over the weekend if I get enough questions.

Hope your day’s a beautiful one!

Several things to respond to:

1. In groups where you all discuss things and talk about beliefs and faith and whatnot, one MUST be free to bring up different viewpoints or issues without being beat-down for it. If someone can't defend their position, gracefully, then they need to either re-think it, or learn their stuff better. When someone gets upset at another person disagreeing with them, it usually means they are not quite so certain about their stance as the put on. Someone who is rock-solid about what they believe has absolutely nothing to fear from someone who questions them or thinks differently.

2. Em is adorable, and the clover pic is adorable. We used to have a pony-ride at FairyTale Town here in Sacramento. That's the first place I ever rode a horse (they were led around, like Em's), but I remember thinking it was awesome!

3. Your haircut is super-cute, you look great. Shoes are a vice, and you need to get that under control. LOL!!!

The shamrock picture is stunning. Oh so soft and innocent: the perfect picture.

Your hair looks great, BTW. It totally transforms your face. Took guts to make that change: I know I wouldn't have the guts to do the same.

You look great Nic. Very sexy. I am sorry to hear about the rough times you are going through right now. Hopefully things will turn around for you soon. You deserve so much better than that.
