I enjoy reading your POV even when I don't always agree with it. Variety is the spice of life and you add much spice to mine, my friend.

As for Monday's meal, I'm thinking Italian dishes and next week will be labor day selections for the following week. :)Nichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06559149506126040177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8227061.post-1124669732241135872005-08-21T19:15:00.000-05:002005-08-21T19:15:00.000-05:00p.s as i said on my blog.. you're still my favori...p.s as i said on my blog.. you're still my favorite conservative.

so whats for Monday dinner?greatwhitebearhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08448430897774991335noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8227061.post-1124669271954584852005-08-21T19:07:00.000-05:002005-08-21T19:07:00.000-05:00Okay, I believe I have cooled off enough to commen...Okay, I believe I have cooled off enough to comment dispassionately. I will do my best to comment in a rational matter.

Before you come down too hard on Ms. Sheehan, there are some things you should take into consideration. Like myself, Cindy Sheehan (who is the same age as my sister) came of age during the Viet Nam War. A war in which our government, to be generous, was consistently less than forthright as to it’s motives and conduct. Virtually everybody around my age was affected by this tragic, immoral, lie of a war. In my case, not only did a close family friend lose her young husband, but five of my classmates returned in body bags. The guy who played on the offensive line next to me returned home minus his legs. And the brightest guy in our class returned an emotional vegetable who can still be seen wandering the streets of Pontiac pushing a grocery cart and mumbling. All as fodder for a war that was a lie from the beginning.

Now Ms. Sheehan has lost her son to a war that, to be VERY generous, the government has been less than forthright as to both it’s motives and conduct. You and your daughter are both too young for you to understand what I am about to say, but in fifteen years or so you will.

There is almost nothing more psychologically damaging than being preceded in death by an adult child. Being preceded in death by and adolescent child is bad enough, but as a parent, in the back of your mind, you always know the possibilities. Children don’t think about consequences. They say “ I wonder what will happen if?” And then proceed to see. If you are lucky, they are wondering what will happen if they try to play a peanut butter sandwich in the VCR, rather than what will happen if they stick that knife in the electric outlet. But once your child has reached adult hood, you expect to grow old and die in the knowledge you have successfully raised them. The last thing you expect is to outlive them. It should be no surprise that Ms. Sheehan doesn’t want any parent to unnecessarily go through what she is. Getting the troops home is probably the only way she can see that her son didn’t die in vain. If she can use his death to save others from the same fate, then he will not have been lost in vain.

Briefly on some of the other points:

Cindy: ”We are not waging a war on terror in this country. We’re waging a war of terror. The biggest terrorist in the world is George W. Bush!"

Did you know that in just July and August, more Iraqi civilians have died violently than US troops have since the start of the war? That the Baghdad morgue averages about 5 times more “business” than it ever did under Saddam?

That we are about to replace a secular government, where women were at least free to get an education, work to their abilities, and dress as they pleased, with an Islamic one? According to the papers today, the new Iraqi constitution will say that Iraqi law is based on the laws of Islam.

So..five times as many Iraqi’s die violently than ever did before we got there, we are about to replace an oppressive government with an even more oppressive one, and women will feel the brunt of this oppression. Maybe Cindy has a point.

Cindy: "My son joined the Army to protect America, not Israel." Where in the world did THIS one come from?

Unfortunately, the crux of virtually all of the turmoil in the middle east during the last half century has been the Palestinian/Israeli conflict, made worse by our knee jerk reaction in favor of all things Israel. Until there is a just, reasonable, equitable end to this conflict, this area will always be unstable. We should be working to stabilize the situation, not destabilize it.

Okay sorry, didn’t mean to be so long winded. I apologize for taking up so much space!greatwhitebearhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08448430897774991335noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8227061.post-1124596858726358962005-08-20T23:00:00.000-05:002005-08-20T23:00:00.000-05:00Mark, that is what is great about this country is ...Mark, that is what is great about this country is that you are entitled to your differing opinion (and knowing you it is bound to be very different from mine) and I respect your opinion, even though I don't have to agree with it, just like you don't have to agree with mine. Living in America and being free and being allowed to speak our minds and not get taken to a torture chamber for doing so is one of the things that the soldiers in Iraq are trying to get set up for the Iraqi citizens.

You're still my favorite Mark Spurrier, even though our views are vastly different! I hope this coming week goes better for you and your family (including your bf's family) than this past week did.Nichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06559149506126040177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8227061.post-1124595673304976792005-08-20T22:41:00.000-05:002005-08-20T22:41:00.000-05:00wow..your post pissed me off so much I said things...wow..your post pissed me off so much I said things in anger I shouldn't have said, thus the delete.
